Welcome to Weatherly House!

Welcome and thank you for stopping by - we are so excited to share our home with you!

I ran another home design blog for seven years that chronicled the design, construction, move in and DIY projects of our first home. My handy husband built custom furniture, an entire wine cellar, a 10 ft outdoor stone fireplace, a shoe closet for me and built custom trim work in just about every room of the house. I shared my 33 Christmas trees each Christmas and my carefully planned table scapes for each holiday. We shared how we DIY'd furniture and all of our home improvement projects. I had so much fun along the way - and to my surprise the blog had millions of views and was featured on TV and well known websites - but as a first time mom I got busy with parenting and the blog fell to the wayside.  Over time my tastes also evolved and matured.

Sadly, we moved away from that house last year in order to shorten our daily commutes to work, which had become almost unbearable.  Leaving was heartbreaking because the house was like a child to us. We had invested so much time, money and effort into personalizing every detail of it.  We also counted our neighbors like family, but I couldn't keep commuting an hour each way to work, especially after having children.

With two kids and a busy career, time passed quickly, but I am excited to get back to sharing my love for home design with all of you, especially against the backdrop of our new home!

I definitely don't have time to take this on, but here I am, doing it anyway.

As mothers, we are so focused on our children that many of us give up everything we enjoyed before becoming parents.  I know that's the case with me. This blog is the first step (and probably the only one for awhile) in correcting that.

Also, we have spent the last 13 months designing and building a completely custom house and I am so excited to share the details with each of you!  I am also really motivated by the thought that our research and experiences may be a resource to some of you. For example, I googled paint colors for weeks hoping to find photos of our options on other homes without much success. The same thing goes for hardwood stains and dining rooms with French Doors. Hopefully by sharing our details and design I can make your own home building or remodeling journeys easier.

We spent so much time making these decisions that it almost feels cathartic to begin writing about them too. A custom build is not for the faint of heart - we picked everything, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING. Every outlet location, ever faucet, the driveway contour, every door knob (we have 4 different types), each tree to remove, each piece of trim and of course, the entire layout (which I literally sketched on a hotel notepad and then our architect turned into a house).  It has been equal parts exhausting and exciting and now we are so excited to share it all with you!

After seven (yes, seven) months with the architect designing the house, he said “I think I finally get your vision: you want the house to look like a centuries old French estate that was remodeled in 2020.”  YES, EXACTLY. It doesn’t make much sense, but somehow it all seems to be coming together beautifully.

The house is about 40 days from completion, so hopefully we are starting this party right when things are getting exciting!

(I promise all you missed was a lot of orange mud and 5 million agonizing decisions, some of which I will recap here).

If you like contemporary design with international details, lots of feminine accents, big closets and/or way too much gold, this blog is for you.

Thanks for coming along! Follow Weatherly House on the ‘gram at @weatherlyhouse for more updates and design details!
